Vote now for the Digiscoper of the Year 2011

Public voting for the Digiscoper of the Year 2011 is now open – all you need to do is go to the Digiscoper of the Year website, login, and then select your Top 10 favorite photos.

Every year I am stunned by the quality of images that are entered in to the competition and this year has been no different. To whet your appetite for voting, I’d like to share a few images that have stood out to me, either for their artistic flair, comic nature, interest of the species involved or difficulty of capture.

Common Kingfisher by Quimar. This type of shot is fairly common with a kingfisher on a "no fishing" sign, but what really makes this shot special is that he is "ostrich hiding" his face to not get caught.

Purple Swamphen by Guille. Great colours and composition

Kevin Bolton's "Snowy Egret display" with a wonderful play of light.

Dunlins by Dowitcher. Great playful use of depth of field.

So, please go online to the Digiscoper of the Year website and vote for your favorite 10 – this will help decide who wins the competition (public vote = 1 judge vote). Oh, another thing, the star ratings have no effect on the end result, only the Top 10 votes. The stars only determine which order the images are shown on the website. Voting ends at the end of October 2011.

Anna's Hummingbird. Tara has a good few stunning entries this year.
