Forget all them vomit-inducing luvvies who starred in The King’s Speech, the only movie anybody really cares about is The Big Year. IMDB now lists the movie’s release date in the UK as 14th October 2011, and lists the cast as Steve Martin, Jack Black, Owen Wilson, Angelica Houston and plenty of other people who I’m sure are mega famous but who I have to admit I’ve never heard of (actually, I think I’ve heard of Brian Dennehy). Though seeing as the last movie I went to see at the cinema was Kung-fu Panda (not out of choice), I’m not exactly Barry Norman when it comes to the silver screen. Let’s just hope Steve Martin is funny, like he used to be:

Anyway, I’m sure The Big Year will be an enormous commercial success and should almost certainly clean up at the Oscars, because if there’s one thing movie goers love, that’s a movie about three men spending an entire year birdwatching.

    The Jack Black character(Greg Miller), actually lives in our area and we’ve met a few times at local birding events. We also was lucky enough to work on the film, making sure no one made too many birding errors!

    What’s with those silly hats? I have never seen any birder wearing those kind of hats. A disguise of some kind? Or an effort to fit in with everbody else?
